Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust (LACCT)
In 1994 we were challenged by the minister to set up a community programme in response to the mission statement and with the employment of two workers we started some activities which were very popular.
In order to extend the numbers and quality of these activities and to make a more positive, professional and committed contribution to our local community we established the Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust in October 1998. The Trust operates from the church premises and uses all the facilities, but is financially independent of the church.
Currently we employ a Coordinator, Family Worker and Partnership Community Workers (in conjunction with Pegasus Health). Through these workers and an army of wonderful volunteers we are able to offer the following services and activities:
Support; Practical advice; Emergency food assistance; Referrals to other agencies; Podiatrist services; Assistance with health issues through referrals from local medical practices.
Activities include: Craft Group; Friendship Club for over 65’s; Music and Movement for pre-school children and parents; Walking Group; Community Lunch; Tai Chi and Gentle Exercise which is particularly good for those living with arthritis.
Youth Activities: We have a Girls Brigade Company which meets each Tuesday evening during school terms. This is open to all girls from 5 to 18 years of age. We also offer a school holiday programmes – please call the office for details!
Our premises and office are open each weekday from 9 – 12 and anyone is welcome to come in for assistance, a cup of coffee or just to chat.
