Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust (LACCT)

In 1994 we were challenged by the minister to set up a community programme in response to the mission statement and with the employment of two workers we started some activities which were very popular.
In order to extend the numbers and quality of these activities and to make a more positive, professional and committed contribution to our local community we established the Linwood Avenue Community Corner Trust in October 1998. The Trust operates from the church premises and uses all the facilities, but is financially independent of the church.
Currently we employ a Community Family Worker and a Community Health Worker (in conjunction with Partnership Health through the ‘Services to Improve Access’ scheme).  Through these workers and an army of wonderful volunteers we are able to offer the following services and activities:
Support; Practical Advice; Reading/filling out forms; Emergency help through food parcels and curtain bank; Referrals to other agencies; Podiatrist services; Assistance with health issues through referrals from local medical practices.
Activities include: Craft group; Friendship Club for elderly; Music and Movement for pre-school children and parents; Walking Group; Community Lunch; Tai Chi; Gentle exercise for arthritis and Zumba
Youth Activities: Youth Group for high school age and above; Generate Youth Group for 10 - 14 year olds; Girls Group; individual mentoring; ‘Chattabox Club’ (a Christian based mid-week club for 5 - 12 year olds). We also have a Girls Brigade Company which meets each Tuesday evening during school terms. This is open to all girls from 5 to 18 years of age.
Our premises and office are open each weekday from 9 - 12 and anyone is welcome to come in for assistance, a cup of coffee or just to chat.
